“A vampire tells his epic life story: love, betrayal, loneliness, and hunger.”

It’d been a while since I’d popped this movie up to watch. But when it came out originally, I remember watching it so many times with my friends that we could almost quote the entire movie. With the release of the new series, my teenage squees rang in my head.

Looking at this movie again, it’s still one of my favorite vampire movies, but now I feel like so much of the movie feels… rushed.

As Louis suffers through is grief, Lestat decides that this is the one to make as an eternal companion. But why? They seem such polar opposites. But then again, this is Louis’ story, not Lestat’s.

There is also this subtle fine line being walked through the different relationships. Each vampire within Louis’ life actually represents different parts of his long lost humanity.

To me, while there may be vampires and death, I find this movie more a beautiful cinematic drama about what really constitutes evil. If there is love and remorse, is there not good?
