“A single mother gives her son a much sought-after doll for his birthday, only to discover that it is possessed by the soul of a serial killer.”
Let’s be honest. Child’s Play is so original that it has never been successfully duplicated. And the use of animatronics for the 80’s? Amazing.
The opening of the movie plays out like a typical 80’s action flick with a cop chasing down the bad guy and a shoot-out ensues. But then we get the first bug reveal that this isn’t your typical flick.
This serial killer, not wanting it to end in the first act, suddenly busts out some Voodoo. That’s when you start to realize there is more to our dear boy Chucky.
You have to give massive applause to this child actor, too. Probably never wanted to see a toy doll ever again after filming.
There’s something extra creepy about someone so dangerous hiding in something so harmless. Why not just pick up the doll and yeet it out a window? We,, as shown with the first death, it’s about Chucky’s strategy more than his size.
MINOR SPOILERS FROM HERE.
The best scene for me is when Chucky finally reveals himself to the mom. She’s found out the batteries are missing, she threatens to bur the doll and BAM! The shit-talking that comes out is EPIC.
It was no coincidence that this movie scared a lot of people as it came out right at the height of the My Buddy dolls. The 80’s was full of creepy ass toys, to be honest. Maybe Chucky wasn’t the scariest.
