“A controversial true crime writer finds a box of super 8 home movies in his new home, revealing that the murder case he is currently researching could be the work of an unknown serial killer whose legacy dates back to the 1960s.”

As a writer, I totally could relate to the pressure the protagonist was going through. Well, not the part where you actually ever were successful…

For me, the things I really like is that you’re discovering the story as the protagonist does. Each clue he finds, you find. His reactions tend to mirror your own.

Also, how messed up do you have to be to move into the house of the victims you’re writing about? I mean, it’s one thing to maybe visit a site for research, but to move your children into a murder scene is a-whole-nother level.

SPOILERS FROM HERE

I think Ethan Hawke’s best reaction is to the “Lawn Work” scene. And it carries through so well that even though the camera cuts away just at the most gory part, your mind can know how horrific it must have been.

And the twist at the end! The first time I saw it, I actually gasped out a “nuh-uh.” It’s not too many movie that can pull such a beautiful bow around things like this.

It can be a hard watch for some people because of the child factor but overall, I really enjoyed this.
