“A puritan Police Sergeant arrives in a Scottish island village in search of a missing girl, who the Pagan locals claim never existed.”

I’m not exactly sure why this movie is listed as horror. Christopher Lee felt along the same lines. There’s not a real gore factor or scares to talk about but it is a beautiful movie to watch.

It’s a ver satisfying feeling to watch this man, who was used to having all the power, come to a place where his Christian views and laws were entirely thrown out the window. No one on this isle thinks anything of his official title or who is is on the mainland. They’re a community. And if you’re in, you know. If you’re not, well, sorry.

SPOILERS FROM HERE.

Each sene slowly reveals that there is something a little more off about this “missing” girl. The town seems so unconcerned by the notion that the suspicion starts from the beginning.

As he being to piece together that they believe they have to sacrifice to bring their crops back. He makes yet another assumption that they are using this girl as a virgin sacrifice.

Well, he’s half right.

For all his high and mighty stature, his choice to keep himself until marriage makes him an even better virgin sacrifice. And they cheer all the way to the end with a bright celebration song.
