“A young couple is trapped in a remote town where a dangerous religious cult of children believes that everyone over age 18 must be killed.”

So, I have this vague childhood memory of being single digit age and my mom taking me to urgent care. Sitting in the waiting area, this movie was playing. Nice.

The movie never mad it back to my radar for a while but when it did, the first thing I realized was that this movie sports a pre-Terminator Linda Hamilton. It was so weird to se her so much more… dosile.

Anywho, I don’t have kids and this movie just adds another reason. It was like a mini-homocidal union they formed and went on strike by killing all the adults. This is why you need a good union negotiator.

Stephen King had written this as a short story but as with much 80’s horror, sequels spanned out to try and cash in on this success. But this original success is for a reason.

The inital short story points out the impressionability of children and how those impressions can thrive with all he vigor of a child’s demanding. It taps into the religious zealotry associated with rural and “Bible Belt” states. If the only thing you know is what’s told to you by “the one who walks behind the rows,” your judgement is confined to that.

SPOILERS FROM THIS P OINT

To be honest, the ending was the only really entertaining part. To see Isaac all zombie-fied and calling for Malachi was perfect. But to be honest, while the premise was good, the stiff script and 80’s visual effects left me… wanting more corn.
