“After discovering a video showing what he believes to be his vanished sister Heather, James and a group of friends head to the forest believed to be inhabited by the Blair Witch.”

While there was a sequel to the Blair Witch Project made in 2000, it strayed majorly off the course of the original movie and kind of fizzled out. But sixteen years later, we’re given a more adequate reprisal.

We pick up with another documentarian who is following the younger brother of one of the missing hikers from the first film. “New” video had surfaced online making him believe his sister may still be alive in the Black Forest Hills.

While the first movie played with directional accountability, this movie plays with time. Days get shorter and then seem to vanish. Some of the travelers experience days go by while others feel just hours.

The suspense in this movie is just mimicking a lot of the original but they try to add a little more gore in.

SPOILERS FROM THIS POINT

I was a little disappointed in one thing in particular here and that was them showing the actual witch. Part of the draw of that first found footage was done by leaving some things to the imagination.

Also, adding the gore of the infected foot seemed out of place and didn’t lead to really anything that could help the story.

In trying to make a more up to date Blair Witch Project, it feels more like a Blair Witch failure.
