“A man brutally murdered comes back to life as an undead avenger of his and his fiancée’s murder.”
It took me a bit to write this one because this movie is one that hits me on so many levels, From the unique and beautiful story, to the cinematography that was way ahead of its time, to the characters and the acting… It’s pretty much a perfect movie.
When the pain of injustice is so intense that it pierces the realm of the dead, you know that vengeance is coming with an unstoppable force. In some beliefs, the crow walks in both the world here and the world of the dead so having it bring back a soul is fitting.
Also, where most horror movies make it out to have the supernatural creature be the villain, here, it is the vile depths of humanity that are to be feared.
This movie was based off of a graphic novel that was created as a part of therapy. The writer had lost his fiancee to a drunk drive and found that creating this story helped him start to heal.
You also can’t help but feel that twinge of pain knowing that, much like the character he portrayed, Brandon Lee’s life was also cut tragically short during filming.
I could probably do a huge write-up on this movie and maybe later on I will. But for now, I close it here. Watch this movie.
