The opening scene to the Howling is great in that we barely have any hint to the true monsters of the film. It seems like a serial killer flick and a pretty twisted one at that.
Trauma can lead us to search for some form of comfort and belonging. Karen does this by going to a colony at the behest of her therapist. Although, I find it interesting that they used “colony” instead of retreat. Something that foretells some things.
As someone with PTSD, I could sympathize with Karen and how she was remembering bits and pieces and trying to move forward.
Then you man does it with a werewolf. I can’t relate there.
SPOILERS FROM THIS POINT
Dealing with PTSD is bad enough but trying to come to grips with your taima being linked to a werewolf who you thought was dead but comes back to transform (in one of the best practical effects transformations EVER) right before your very eyes? I don’t there is enough therapy for that.
Well, she doesn’t need therapy since she doesn’t live long enough but…
