“Laurie Strode struggles to come to terms with her brother Michael’s deadly return to Haddonfield, Illinois; meanwhile, Michael prepares for another reunion with his sister.”
Ah yes, when the remake also remakes a sequel. I know I haven’t done the original Halloween 2 yet but I don’t have it free at the moment. So let’s just dive right in here.
While we are again “treated” to true Rob Zombie gore, I will say that there were a couple of things I actually did like about what he did. Particularly, how Laurie’s PTSD is real and then compounded by finding out her biological relation to Myers.
But then, maybe in order to give his wife more screen time, we’re given more flashbacks and now the introduction of the white horse psychological metaphor. this again takes away from the mystery that makes Michael Myers the true boogyman.
I’m also not sure about this version of Loomis. In the originals, his whole mission in life is to stop Michael and in Zombie’s version, he is on a mission to sell more books. He was supposed to be the one to be on the hunt. It pulls him from being one the good guys to just being… money hungry.
SPOILERS FROM THIS POINT
Annie’s death was the heart wrencher for me. Her tears, Laurie’s tears… Nope. Heart broken.
I don’t really understand the psychic, ghost mother ending. How would Laurie even know what her mother looked like or the white horse being dreamed of by Michael?
Look, this is a gore fest. This is what it’s for. But it’s not the true Michael Myers.
