“A shy girl, outcast by her peers and sheltered by her religious mother, unleashes telekinetic terror on her small town after being pushed too far at her senior prom.”
Let’s get this remake sequence over for this movie. We were given the awesome original, the sad first remake and now a remake that actually stands some ground.
The acting is wonderful. Especially Julianne Moore. This movie shows even more of the insanity and even how at Carry’s birth, she hadn’t even known what birth was and almost killed the baby as soon as it was born.
I also loved how they tossed in the social media aspect of things by pinning Chris down with the video upload. And that actress really nails Chris being the selfish bitch.
Unlike the first remake, you start to feel how Sue is regretful right from the first act and you can tell her actions are honorable.
Special effects? Of course they’re upped in this version but what some people like to argue about is the fact that Carrie didn’t need hand motions in the first movie and that made it creepier. But I don’t know. This expressive Carrie is pretty creepy.
SPOILERS FROM THIS POINT
So, I never had a prom. But I’d like to think it wouldn’t have involved mass homicide. At least in this version, Carries spares the gym teacher. I always thought that should have been the case in the first movie.
All in all, it was a good remake. It didn’t have the jump scare ending (sorry, Tom Savini) but it kept true to the core story.
