“Five carnival workers are kidnapped and held hostage in an abandoned, hellish compound where they are forced to participate in a violent game, the goal of which is to survive twelve hours against a gang of sadistic clowns.”
And we are back into the Rob Zombie universe. You know that that means: gore and his wife in the lead role.
The main concept is a survival game where homicidal clowns attempt to murder the kidnapped victims while the rich aristocrats watch and place their bets. And who are the kidnapped victims?
In this particular story, they’re carnival workers in the mid-seventies (which I notice Zombie has a soft spot for.) And the title “31” stands for the date of October 31. (Ironic since this came out after his Halloween remakes.)
If you are into outright psychotic gore, then this movie will be right up your ally. But if you’re not, this movie is hard to stomach.
SPOILERS FROM THIS POINT
As each level of insane killer is revealed and new bloody deaths occur, we aren’t surprised that it’s the director’s wife who is the final girl. I do like that even though she “won,” the last killer wants to know how the fight would really end.
Then they cut it. So, what’s your ending?
