“A reporter and her ex-husband investigate a cursed video tape that is rumored to kill the viewer seven days after watching it.”
The 90’s gave birth to something extremely beautiful and haunting. Japanese horror. Rooted deep in spiritual customer and some superstitions, the ghostly imagery and stellar active gave us some amazing movies that American film makers attempted to copy.
I don’t happen to speak Japanese but the subtitles don’t bother me at all. The concept an imagery makes a little reading worth it.
Does video capture more than just an image? Can there be something so horrific that it can exist outside of the caporal being? And what if that thing was out for blood?
This is another movie that lets you discover things on pace with the protagonist which can only add to the buildup of suspense.
SPOILERS FROM HERE
I couldn’t do much of a review without spoiling something. So here we go.
There is a mirror between the “abilities” of the ex husband and of the deceased. Is that the reason they stumbled upon the tape?
We all want our lives to have some message that carries on. And in her tragic death, Sadako ensures that by only sparing those who copy the infamous take, making sure no one will ever forget her.
And those who don’t keep her memory going? Well, to have what we view on the television coming out and killing us is one thing this horror fan hopes never happens.
