“The spirits of a deceased couple are harassed by an unbearable family that has moved into their home, and hire a malicious spirit to drive them out.”

Yes, there is a Tim Burton movie that doesn’t star Johnny Depp.

For a movie of the late 80’s, there are few that touch the visual brilliance of this. Burton poses the question to the audience of what the opposite side of a haunting might entail. From the ghastly realization of death to the DMV style of navigation through the afterlife, this movie takes ghosts and give them the most…. hehe.

Being as young as I was when I first saw this, there was a lot of subtext and jokes that went over my head but it still had the cartoonish and playfulness that kept me more than entertained.

And can we talk about Michael Keaton? It’s no wonder Burton ended up casting him as the first Batman. He has range, depth and his physical acting is on point.

SPOILERS FROM THIS POINT

This movie actually moves and has a good steady pace so I don’t want to do much on the side of spoilers but is anyone else a little creeped out by the thought of the child bride Lydia?

And I am so excited that a new sequel is coming next year with some of the original cast! Yay!!
