“Jason Voorhees stalks a group of friends who have just arrived to spend the weekend at a cabin near Crystal Lake.”

No more sack for Jason! One of the key moments from this movie is that Jason is finally donning the first hokey mask. As a side note, you can tell which Friday movie you’re watching by which design of mask he’s wearing.

On a more unfortunate note, this movie came out during the massive influence of 3D movies and while at the time, the campy effects were good for the theater, it loses a lot in the regular viewing on the television. Plus it seemed so forced. A yo-yo? Juggling fruit? Showing an eyeball all close? Eh. this movie really seemed to be trying for a 3D event rather than a full on Jason story.

Some bonuses? As mentioned previously, Jason finally received his iconic hockey mask. And we do get a few creative kills to add to Jason’s resume. I like how someone once said that Jason is really the MacGyver of killers. Anyone can use a knife but he’ll make anything into a lethal object. We also get a slight nod to “Psycho” with a shower kill. Sort of.

SPOILERS FROM THIS POINT

Our final girl gets a flash of the Jason face under the mask and gives an “It’s you!” as if people have always known his face?

Another nod is the classic canoe floating in the lake like the first movie. It’s at this point you start to wonder if there were actually any original ideas at all here.

Overall, not so impressed.
