“A group of tourists arrives in Burkittsville, Maryland after seeing The Blair Witch Project (1999) to explore the mythology and phenomenon, only to come face to face with their own neuroses and possibly the witch herself.”
As the first major found footage movie of its time, no one really anticipated an attempt at a sequel and yet here we are. But is it more found footage? Nay. Joe Berlinger wanted to be able to use full on movie tropes and effects.
Which failed.
Let me clarify. If this movie had been produced as something other than a sequel, it would have had a better chance. Its break from the monster hit of found footage meant that you were privy to things that characters weren’t and instead of relying on the suspense of the unknown, they attempted to toss in some special effects and attempted jump scares.
We follow a group of super fans wanting to tour the actual area of the original Blair Witch Project for various reason. And after a night of drugs and alcohol, they wake to find their supplies destroyed and their recollection of tho=e night gone.
Trying to piece together their own “found footage” of the night before, they run into homicide, vanishing people and other paranormal fun.
SPOILERS FROM THIS POINT
Grou hysteria? Bad weed? Bad wrighting?
In the end, they try to wrap it up with, yet again, more footage but it just fall flat. There’s no real answer or connection to the Witch legend except where they stayed that night.
I don’t know. It just didn’t work for me.
