“Follows Elvira as she battles against her gorgeous stepsister in a realm where beauty reigns supreme. She resorts to extreme measures to captivate the prince, amidst a ruthless competition for physical perfection.”
Okay, I had another few movies I was going to post about first but WOW! Okay this… this is interesting.
I knew the original story of Cinderella where the stepsisters would cut their toes off to fit the glass slipper but this takes it to a whole new level. Beauty is something that has always been associated with being wanted. Like today’s plastic surgery, women have done many things to their body to become what is “wanted.”
The stepsisters to Cinderella are the focus in this movie, most directly, Elvira who longs to marry the prince. And her mother is determined to make this happen because she found out that Cinderella’s father had no money to leave them when he died. It is announced that the prince is holding a ball in four months so she has that long to become what he will want. There are dancing and etiquette lessons, yes. But that only handles formalities.
Be warned – this movie is not for the faint of heart. From the “nose repair” to the lash extensions, you think that the surgical aspects are all you have to worry about. But no, she needs to lose weight so she ingests a tapeworm egg.
SPOILERS FROM THIS POINT
We all know that she won’t get the prince. That’s not the spoiler. No, it is the last attempt to fit the shoe. Yes, she tries to chop her toes off and they are GRAPHIC with this. Then she finds out she cut off the wrong toes so her mother finishes the others!
Is that all? Ha! Remember that tapeworm?
This movie is absolutely more accurate to the original fairy tale but it’s a tough watch.
