“A small-time wrestling company accepts a well-paying gig in a backwoods town only to learn, too late, that the community is run by a mysterious cult leader with devious plans for their match.”

Okay, okay. So, I have a little bias here as to why I love this movie. I actually used to date professional wrestlers. Let me tell you one thing: Yes, they may plot out who will win but… gravity is real. I put together those rings and those mats are not all foam and cushy.

That being said, a “dark match” is a non-televised matches, usually done for a group or charity event. But here in this movie, it’s a double meaniing. Yes, these wrestlers are hired for a private performance but “dark” is referring to the “devilish” aspect.

You get little hints here and there about the intentions of the group as the wrestlers are separated and not allowed to see the matches where their colleagues are being fought.

It gives you a taste of some of the behind the scenes drama that arose with real professional wrestling while giving you a Satanic taste of sacrifice.

Oh yeah, and you have the fun of real professional wrestler Chris Jericho as the primary antagonist.

SPOILERS FROM THIS POINT

The only real spoiler is that I WANT A SEQUEL! They end it with her facing off against the summoned Devil? C’mon!
