“A woman learns that she has a connection to the werewolf tormenting her village.”
Ah, yes. Little red riding hood. The metaphor for female delicacy. Apart from the overt warning about talking to strangers, there are many interpretations of the classic fairy tale, many of them sexual. Which this movie leans into some. (Sexy dancing, bitches!!)
So, this small village sacrifices an animal each full moon to apease a werewolf. Hate to break it to you, but that’s not the only thing the wolf wanted. No, one night, the wolf kills a person of the village. Thus, our story deepens.
Meanwhile, little Valerie (played by the lovely Amanda Seyfried) is seeing this turmoil as she is preparing to be betrothed to a prize catch of a boy while her heart belongs to a wild a free one… yeah. Had to have the cliche love story in there.
To save the village, they enlist the help of a priest. And while I adore Gary Oldman and his acting prowess, I feel it’s wasted in this role that has little depth.
SPOILERS FROM THIS POINT
I did like the twist that those with the wolf’s bloodline could hear him in wolf form. And this made it fuel for the entire group of murders that ended up happening at the hands of said wolf.
But to me it would have been a better ending to have Valerie become a wolf but use it for good or show it could be tamed rather than spend her days alone pining for love lost.
Or maybe I’m just old and bitter.
