“Five years after an unexplained malfunction causes the death of 15 tour-goers and staff on the opening night of a Halloween haunted house tour, a documentary crew travels back to the scene of the tragedy to find out what really happened.”
Where this found footage movie differs is that they interweave the tapes with an updated documentary style show to try and piece it together. This gives us a small bit of a narrative to follow. To me, that took away some from the “found footage” style.
The morose piano soundtrack stood out ot me as well. it set this very saddened state which does help you feel for the characters.
It takes place in the abandoned Abaddon Hotel. Funny story: Abaddon is the bottomless pit and resting place of dead people. Which I have to admit, that would be a great idea for a haunted house.
The movie doesn’t rely on a ton of murders and gore, but rather the ghostly suspense of what may be happening instead. And to be honest, let’s face it, our imagination can sometimes be something far scarier than any movie.
SPOILERS FROM THIS POINT
So, the owner of the Hell House sunk everything into this one endeavor, including the lives of this friends.
But the big twist is that the “lone survivor” is actually bait, luring the journalist and her cameraman back to the hotel. I will amidst that the first time I saw this movies, that was not the ending I expected.
Not a bad watch.
