Monkey see, monkey kill. I almost feel like this is “Cujo” with a monkey instead of a dog…

You have to give it up for the practical effects in this movie. The slight bit of CGI they must have had to have used is so well put you can hardly tell. This movie also has a nice use of ASL And there were actually some moments that I held my breath with the characters. That’s some good acting and directing right there.

After a brief into to the family and their adoption of a chimp named “Ben,” this movie is pretty much nonstop on the tension and action. The only pauses are used to show the father’s growing concern at the fact no one is answering at home. Which, they have good reason not to be.

There are some deaths that really need to happen in this movie, such as the typical “bro” looking to get laid. Then there are deaths that you hold your breath to not be true. (Side note: There is a scene where someone dies by having their head crushed in by a rock. I paused after for a drink refill and the ad that came up on the screen was for “Hand&Stone: Just relax.” I about died laughing.)

Mother nature is cruel. And there is always danger lurking in every corner of animals. Rabies can destroy even the kindest of creatures. We get distracted by things in the modern world that blindly make us think we have control. The end fight scene is actually really dynamic to watch and I enjoyed it.

One of the best lines is when the chimp hits him: “Ow, Donkey Kong!” I also actually felt bad when the slutty girl died in this one. She had a smart idea and if it wasn’t for a badly timed parking job, she would have gotten out. Also, when the Lucy steps on the glass I immediately thought “Just like stepping on a Lego.”

It’s not the most articulated movie and will never win an Oscar, but for horror fans, this is a good watch.
