“Evy Babic, a skeptical paranormal pod-caster caring for her comatose mother, receives disturbing recordings tied to a folkloric threat, and every new file pulls her closer to fears she can no longer explain away.”

Eh.

Okay, so podcasts are a thing. EVP’s are a thing. Old myths about children’s songs are a thing. And I see what they were trying to do but this was such a slow burn that I don’t think I could ever boil a teaspoon of water with it. It leans into the world of podcasting (which, SHH, don’t tell but I’m looking at) and it loses a lot of the character development in the process.

What little development there is relies on the worry of taking care of parents while facing your own parental instincts. Did that make sense? No? Yes? She’s taking care of an ailing mother while finding out she’s expecting a baby. Which then leans (sort of) into the plot of the recordings.

SPOILERS FROM THIS. POINT

I felt a little deja-vu of Sinister. This seemed like the audio version. The recordings slowly release the demon and the listener (viewer) is overtaken in the end by the entity. The only difference was it being the parent rather than the child.

Overall, it’s not a horrible movie but I would rather watch Sinister.
