Why keep a character as good as Art the Clown to just Halloween? Let’s not! Here we get a holiday version and I’m ready for it. I guess it wouldn’t be such a far fetched thing since Krampus exists in mythology as well as Santa.
I will give Art one thing: He is creative AF. The beginning when he gets on the subway with a…. let’s say “different look” is amazing. And then he gets a neat new psy-dkick. Ha, get it? He, at least he didn’t have to go to the laundry this time.
Side note: The window Art is looking out from the rocking chair is very oddly similar to the windows in the Ammvtyiille house. Just saying.
Now that Art has had his beauty sleep, it’s time for more kills! And the practical effects are still astounding. Again, this is NOT a film for the squeamish. It also deals a lot with survivor’s guilt and PTSD which may be too much for those still new to their own feelings. The book is thrown out with horror movie do’s-and-don’t’s here including kids dying so don’t be too surprised.
Again the practical effects MAKE this movie. You feel this movie in every kill and even one of the fathers of practical effects (TOM SAVINI) makes a cameo as an homage.
SPOILERS FROM THIS POINT
I am loving the way this movie ties all the mythos together. And while I was sad her brother died (off camera even) I still loved that in the end family is strongest of all and leaves us with an ending to give us a new movie.
However, what a nasty facial for Sienna, just saying.
Overall though, I actually enjoyed this one a LOT.
If you didn’t get the reference in the end, the book the woman is reading is “The 9th Circle” which was one of the two shorts pieced together to make the first Terrifier movie.
