Don’t begrudge me this. I was born in ’81 and I’m such a Gen-X’er that I watched the original of this movie several times over.
Masters of the Universe.
Yes, not a horror movie. But if you are a Gen-X’er you know that He-Man and She-Ra were quintessential. And when there was a live action movie (which starred Courtney Cox, BTW) then we latched onto that like a fat kid on a cupcake.
Was it like the cartoon? Eh. Kind of? But then they announced that there was a 2026 reboot. And we all went “Oh, really????”
Then I watched.
Let me give you the demographics I normally do.
- Released 2026
- Director: Travis Knight

Okay, that’s out of the way. Now, the opening scene is pretty tight and full of great actors (Idris Elba, Alison Brie, and Morena Baccarin just to say a few) and good mythology establishing. Then… we turn to the Earth we know. And it starts to become a bit of a comedy show.
I will give props to the CGI here as it’s very well done and mixes well in this live action. (And at least they didn’t cast Amber Terd as Tela .) They also are getting the outfits more accurate in this version.
Then it moves to Eternia. It moves to the mythology we all know and love. This version has so much more in common with the cartoons I remember watching when I was kid. (Yes, I’m old.) And this version doesn’t try to be too serious and yet isn’t super corny. I’m not going to lie, I was pleasantly surprised!
For those who watched this show in the 80’s, give this movie a try.
